On April 29, 2025, the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) went live with a ground-breaking, statewide Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) that transforms how NJDOT operates and manages the state highway system. It exemplifies innovation, policy advancement, and leadership in the ITS community, and delivers a scalable, secure, and integrated platform that enhances mobility, safety, and operational efficiency across the New Jersey state highway system.

The project modernizes and unifies NJDOT’s traffic management capabilities across the nation’s most densely populated state. NJDOT has, for the first time, a single point of user entry, scalable, integrated software system which enables real-time, data-driven management using common standard operating procedures for more than 5,000 monthly events on the 2,317 mile state highway system for use by NJDOT’s:
