ASHE SNJ 2022 Scholarship Winners

ASHE SNJ congratulates the winners of our 2022 scholarships!

4/5 Year College Program

Elizabeth McDonald

Elizabeth was selected to receive a $5,000 scholarship.  She just finished her Senior year at the College of New Jersey studying Civil Engineering with a GPA of 3.8 and was on the Dean’s List.  Elizabeth was in the Chi Epsilon Civil Engineer Honor Society as well as Phil Theta Kappa, ASCE and SWE.  Elizabeth had an internship working as a Structural CAD Technician at United E&C.   She was also on the Crew Team and volunteered for the YMCA and is a Young Adults Ministry Member.  Elizabeth is looking forward to a career as a Structural Engineer. 


Bridget Guinan

Bridget was selected to receive a $3,000 scholarship.   She is a Senior at Rowan University studying Civil Engineering with a GPA of 3.78 and is on the Dean’s List and the Rowan Scholars Program.  Bridget is on Rowan’s Field Hockey Team and is a member of ASCE, SWE and the Outstanding Women Leaders Group.  She had the opportunity to intern at Earth Engineering, Inc. as a Geotechnical design intern.  Bridget has an interest in geotechnical and structural engineering but looks forward to being a bridge designer. 

Sarah Burghardt

Sarah was selected to receive a $3,000 scholarship.   She is a Junior at Villanova University studying Civil Engineering with a 3.8 GPA and is on the Dean’s List.  She was in the National Honor Society and a National Merit Scholar.  Sarah was a Geotechnical Engineering Intern at Colliers Engineering and participated in Geotechnical Undergraduate Research for Environmental Contaminant Barriers.  She is a Team Leader for Villanova Women’s Rowing as well as a member of Alpha Phi Omega, ASCE and SWE.  Sarah is looking forward to a career in either transportation or geotechnical engineering. 

Dominique Minerva

Dominique was selected to receive a $1,500 scholarship.  She just finished her Senior year at Quinnipiac University with a 3.11 GPA. Dominique had the opportunity to intern at McCormick Taylor and ARH Associates.  She served as Vice President and Treasurer for the ASCE student chapter and Vice President of SWE.  She was offered a full time position with McCormick Taylor and looks forward to eventually getting her PE license. 

Brayden Carr

Brayden was selected to receive a $1,500 scholarship. Brayden is a Senior at Rowan University studying Civil and Environmental Engineering with a 3.8 GPA.    He is a member of ASCE and ASCE.  Brayden had the opportunity to participate in the Rowan CREATES Center reviewing a TRB publication and on a lab team.

Alexa Karpus

Alexa was selected to receive a $1,500 scholarship.  Alexa is a Junior at The College of New Jersey studying Civil Engineering with a 2.99 GPA.  She participates in ASCE, SWE, and the Italian Club.

Community College Program

Noe Ochoa

Noe was selected to receive a $2,000 scholarship.  Noe is a student at Mercer County College with a 3.46 GPA.  He is a member of the ASHE student chapter and participated on the robotics team, computer science club, varsity debate team, chess club and esports league.   Noe is currently interning at Van Cleef Engineering Associates.  Noe looks forward to working in the engineering field and becoming a business owner.

Ayah Alhalawani

Ayah was selected to receive a $2,000 scholarship.  She is a student at Brookdale Community College with a 3.9 GPA.  Ayah has been the Finance Chair for the Muslim Youth of North America, Treasurer for Hope Health and Happiness, and a STEM Mentor for at-risk students.
