Join in the fun, learn, meet engineers in the transportation engineering field, and gain valuable experience by participating with your team of your choosing!


Key dates to know:

  • Kick off meeting: Sunday, September 7, 9:30 am CLICK HERE TO VIEW PRESENTATION
  • Letter of intent: Submittal: Friday, September 12, 5 pm
  • Progress Report Deadlines:
    • 10/03/2025 - Baseline Schedule
    • 11/07/2025 - Progress Report 1
    • 12/05/2025 - Progress Report 2
    • 02/06/2026 - Progress Report 3
  • Scheduled Webinars:
  • Technical Proposal Submission: Friday, February 13, 5 pm
  • In-Person Interview: Saturday, February 28,  9 AM at the offices of Michael Baker International in Pennington, NJ

We are excited to share a unique opportunity for students passionate about real-world engineering challenges! The American Society of Highway Engineers (ASHE) – New Jersey Sections is proud to present the 2nd Annual Student Competition, open to all active associate degrees and Bachelor's degree college students.

This competition offers a chance to engage with real Civil Engineering concepts and demonstrate your innovative thinking and technical abilities.

Competition Highlights:

  • Mentorship Support: Work with experienced mentors and subject matter experts to guide your team.
  • Real-World Challenge: Analyze an actual Civil Engineering Concept Development Report.
  • Proposal Development: Create a Preliminary Engineering Technical Proposal that:
    • Supports or challenges the existing analysis
    • Introduces innovative improvements to the project
  • Professional Presentation: Deliver an in-person presentation to industry professionals using visual aids such as presentation boards and/or PowerPoint.

This is a fantastic opportunity to:
Showcase your technical and presentation skills
Compete with peers in a professional setting
Network with industry professionals
Gain hands-on experience of what engineers do in the real world
Resume-building recognition
