sTUDENT ENGAGEMENT

The American Society of Highway Engineers (ASHE) Southern New Jersey Section (SNJ) has undertaken significant efforts to foster collaboration between professionals and college students, recognizing the pivotal role of active engagement in the dynamic field of civil engineering. With a focus on knowledge transfer, skill development, and creating a vibrant industry ecosystem, the ASHE Southern New Jersey (SNJ) and ASHE North-Central (NC) chapters (ASHE New Jersey) established an Education Committee to drive initiatives aimed at enhancing student involvement.

The Education Committee, seeking to enhance student engagement, prepared a poll for members, contacts, and student members to determine how ASHE New Jersey could collectively target more student involvement. The poll was distributed in November 2023 and the major question we sought to answer:

HOW CAN WE ENGAGE STUDENTS MORE?

ASHE New Jersey’s proactive approach to student outreach reflects a commitment to nurturing the next generation of highway engineering professionals. ASHE New Jersey acknowledges the need for continuous improvement and is actively exploring options  to further increase student engagement. By implementing diverse initiatives based on survey feedback, the section strives to create a collaborative and enriching environment for students. The ongoing efforts to enhance student engagement, coupled with a focus on future initiatives, demonstrate ASHE New Jersey’s dedication to building a bridge between academia and industry.
