Speaker Bio:
J. Lawrence Williams, P.E. - Deputy Chief Engineer - Construction New Jersey Turnpike Authority
Mr. Williams has over 30 years of design, construction supervision and management experience gained from a career working in both the public and private sectors. After graduating from the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, he began his career In Los Angeles, California working for the California Department of Transportation.
In 1985 he relocated to New Jersey and worked for Edwards & Kelcey. Employed in the Highways Department, he gained experience in contract document preparation both as a design engineer and later as a project manager working on projects for the New Jersey Turnpike Authority and the New Jersey Department of Transportation.
In 1989 Mr. Williams left the private sector and joined the New Jersey Turnpike Authority. He began his employment as a staff engineer in design and worked his way up to become the Deputy Chief Engineer of Construction, managing a staff of 25 professionals and support personnel, with construction contracts currently totaling $2.5 billion. Mr. Williams is responsible for the development and implementation of the construction component of the Authority’s $7 billion 10 year Capital Investment Program.
Mr. Williams has a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Civil Engineering from NJIT. He is a Professional Engineer and Professional Planner in the State of New Jersey and is a member of a number of professional organizations.
